The transmission site at Waihi has now gone down due to the extended power outage in the area. Lightwire Technicians are currently on their way to replace the depleted batteries to restore connectivity.

[2026-01-23 08:13:29 NZDT] Lightwire's Waihi transmission site is nearing battery backup depletion due to extended power outages in the region. Technicians are assessing site access, road closures, and weather conditions to form a plan to attend site and recharge our batteries. Unfortunately, due to the challenging conditions, the site may go offline before we are able to attend to it.

A Lightwire technician will need to visit and will be dispatched as soon as possible.

Lightwire's Technician has been able to replace the faulty gear at the Tower and retore connectivity. Things have been looking stable since, so we are not expecting any further disruptions.
